Obviously, feel free to comment with your own thoughts. These are the things I would want the free tier of a site to offer. Other bells and whistles are nice and might make the service worth paying for, but for me the following is crucial:.

There are many image sharing sites on the internet. Other services, such as Behance are focused on more than just photography with lots of graphic art also posted.

There are sites with heavy emphasis on curated content.

While Flick might be a bit too open, we still want somewhere where anyone can come and post without needing approval first. You-pic for example, shows pictures from your followers in a single column. For all of px fault, auto completing tags, suggested tags, auto completing camera information, ext.

The site needed to make it easy to see who is following you and who are the people liking a specific picture. This is going to be especially useful as we are going to be searching by name for people we knew from px.

I've been having a big problem with pulses. Where an image with likes and 2k views after 24 hours used to give me a pulse of about 98, it's now giving me numbers like 90 or 89!! Also, yesterday, I lost almost followers in one second. I was at 1, and then I refreshed the page. It dropped to Really bizarre behaviour since their so-called "scheduled maintenance" earlier this month. Then there's the even weirder problem with comments.

Alternatives: How about Vero?? This was a start-up about a year and a half ago. Vero is kind of languishing these days. It fizzled severely after its first 6 months. They no file size restrictions and the app behaves kind of like the old px did. The only problem is that the community small at the moment isn't Photography specific. There's artists and a whole lot of other people who just post links.

It's kind of an Instagram without the size limitations. The other downside is that you can only use the app on your phone. I'll confirm that later. I forgot my password and I'm waiting for them to send me a link to reset it.

Is 500px any good?

Oh Instagram isn't even in the consideration, as far as I am concerned. I post there, but only because I have a few friends and family who use it and nothing else. Beside it being the domain of duck-faced "influencers" and such, photographs look crap there.

As far as px is concerned, it isn't even a question of pulse and scores and such for me.Up until now I've been using a paid account at px to store images in the cloud and host shots for my blog. Last week saw a major reorganisation to px, all the plans were changed and some features will be dropped.

My problem is that since this happened I've not been able to upload any photos, I get a message stating that I've used my upload allowance when I have an unlimited account.

I've contacted px support and had no joy so I'm looking for another host for my work. Any recommendations would be most welcome. A lot of companies promise great things when reading their blurb but there is nothing like real life experience. What about Flickr or Google photos? Even the free version of Flickr gives you 1TB which is massive.

If you're happy to let Google compress your images to 16mp then you can have unlimited storage for free. While I'm sorry it no longer meets your needs, I left px about a year and a half ago because it no longer met MY needs, and recommitted to Flickr. Maybe I'll visit px and see what's going on over there! I look good fat, I'm gonna look good old. It seems to be leaning even more to the photography dreamer who wants to pretend to be a professional photographer.

Oh well! I don't mind paying, I just want something that is reliable. I recommend Smugmug. Moved all my stuff over last year and so far so good. Its been around a long time, has kept up with the times, and offers several plans with lots of options. Including some great printing option. You also get 'at cost' printing prices for anything you want to order for yourself, versus customized pricelists you can make if you choose to sell your art.

I had my stuff on flickr for years. Still do but recently I have seen some technical issues. In Flickr the main way to make your photo popular is to post it to many in average groups, relevant to your content and with lots of members.

People already labeled as "your contacts" will also be notified once a week or so of your new content. Moreover, in flickr you have two ways to express your liking of a photo, you can comment on it and mark it as favorite. It will remain in this section for a few days but it will roll behind as newer photos are uploaded. In fresh section you can expect views only during the first minutes. As people favor or like your photo it will increase its status on a scale of 0 - Flickr, each day, auto selects images uploaded during the previous day and places them in a special "flickr explore" section for a day.

There may be some equivalent px procedure but I am not aware of it it seems there is a px status called "editor's selection". Reaching "flickr Explore" status is vaguely based on the number of favs and comments the image acquired during they day it was posted but other factors key in.

If an image is selected for explore and due to the sheer power of flickr flickr has many fans and the flickr explore page is also repeated by many other sites it can then reach tousands of views in a single day. After that day, however, the image will lapse again into obscurity, as flickr explore lasts for a day. Initially Getty Images had a group within flickr, where images could be post and selected for licensing Users can label their images as "being available for licensing" and that is all.

The content of the px store is totally controlled by each user you are the one to decide if an image of the ones you uploaded will be available for sale, in which case you must upload a high resolution file to px, which will be available only for purchase. IMHO, plus is all you will ever want to buy Last but not least, a comment about the interface.

IMHO, interface-wise px wins hands down. GO Flickr for Flickr Explore and massive views if and when your photo is selected. Flickr has a massive viewer base but the only way this can be unleashed upon your image is through flickr explore Even the two main flickr groups flickr central and flickr today don't offer much more than views and that is if your image is really interesting, not to mention they both allow only one pic per day GO px for better interface and because it is a lot easier to reach "popular status" and enjoy some popularity The Fujifilm X-T is a low-priced mirrorless camera with a stunning 3.
